About Us

Canada Creek Ranch is a private hunting, fishing and recreation club consisting of approximately 13,500 acres, 480 homes & cabins, and a lodge – commonly known as the “Ranch House” – which houses our administrative offices, dining room, library, gift shop, meeting rooms, game room, fitness room and 20 newly renovated hotel rooms; all adorning the heritage and outdoors theme we so preciously embrace.  We also offer 3 rental cabins and a 125 site campground licensed by the State of Michigan as a travel-trailer park, which operates under the laws and regulations governing such parks, with complete bathhouse facilities, trailer storage area, pavilion and playground.

Located in northern Montmorency County off of highway M-33; halfway between Atlanta and Onaway, Michigan; our private club features some of the best hunting and fishing there is in Michigan’s “up-north” region.  Canada Creek Ranch was established in 1934 and was organized by members who wanted a place for all their family to enjoy for many years to come.

Our property encompasses approximately 21 square miles. Nearly 5 square miles of the eastern part of our club was platted into 3001 lots, and also contains the major portion of the common amenities mentioned above including:
  • Ranch House, administrative offices
  • Twenty 20 hotel rooms
  • A 120 seat dining room, offering a full menu for breakfasts, lunches and dinners
  • The maintenance and fire brigade facilities, situated near the Ranch House
  • Three (3) Ranch-owned rental cabins
  • Numerous member-owned cabins for rent
  • 125 site campground, storage lot, pavilion and bathhouse facilities
  • Tennis courts
  • Four (4) non-motorized fishing and bathing lakes (our fifth lake is located in the hunting area)
  • Blue Ribbon Trout Stream
  • The General Manager’s residence
  • A bathing beach area with pavilion, restroom, baseball field and various play areas
  • Miscellaneous boat access and outdoor recreation areas
  • None of the common amenities are open to the general public
As mentioned, this platted area contains approximately 480 seasonal, part time and full time residences of varying values and size, all served by individual water wells and septic fields, and all along some 17 miles of private, predominately gravel roadways in a natural wooded setting. The remainder of the vacant lots serve as membership lots, some of which are owned and reserved by the Association for future purchase by membership lot holders for construction, or have been bought back by the association and deemed environmentally sensitive and not fit for construction. The 3001 lots represent a population of approximately 1450 members, and their families. Total on-site population, during the varying holidays, can reach 5000 people with seasonal or weekday average of 500. The population is forever in transition from those who may only visit a week out of the year to full time residents with school age children, and many retirees. The social/economic diversity of this population and their individual interest makes for a great “Club” atmosphere and governance.

The platted area is separated from the remainder of property by Canada Creek, which is a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream and runs north and south through the middle of the property, flowing eventually into the Black River. The remainder of the property, referred to as the “hunting area” is a mixed, managed, northern Michigan forest, used for wildlife viewing, hunting, hiking, trail riding and fishing as it also contains one more lake which is planted with fish annually. A portion of this hunting area is leased and in production for natural gas wells in unitized agreements with the State, the Association and another family, which shares ownership of the mineral rights. The hunting area is home to the Archery and Shooting Sports facilities, but minus these two groupings and a couple of small picnic areas these lands are unimproved. Many sand to gravel vehicular trails, as well as cross-county skiing, and snowmobile trails dot our landscape and are maintained by the club. The forest herein is managed by a forest treatment plan and contracted consulting forester. As in many clubs of this nature, the management of such a large, natural, commonly owned landscape can represent a significant part of interest for members. It is considered to be the crowning jewel of our club.

Owning such a large piece of land, including common elements and facilities, as well as our population density allows us to have that friendly small town atmosphere that you would expect in Northern Michigan.

Our mission at Canada Creek Ranch is to preserve our hunting and fishing heritage, provide a quality outdoor environment for recreational activities that are unique to our woods, waters, and wildlife; while promoting among our members an enduring fellowship to preserve our properties amenities for future generations to come. We take pride in our relationship with our land that inspires our member’s appreciation and creates a strong connection between the “Ranch” and our members that we love to share with our visitors. The character of the Ranch has a long history and natural tradition of warm friendly culture that offers a spirit of welcome, comradery, generosity and mutual respect that seems like a step back in time offering a place of rest, relaxation, peaceful tranquility and rejuvenation of the soul.
